Today, we started our Solid Waste Management CAS activity. The aim of SWM is to clean up our school grounds, thus making it a more environmentally friendly place, as well as to finally create manure which we can sell.
We started by taking tools and raking a huge area of waste at the back of the school field, which had continuously been piled with rubbish and plastic. We had to segregate the waste from the leaves. The non-biodegradable material will then be disposed of later, whilst the leaves will be used to make manure.
It was quite a tiring activity, especially having to work out in the heat, amongst bugs and insects, which none of us quite got used to. However, donning our rubber gloves and picking up the rakes was a new experience, and there was a sense of fun in it too.
