In Theatre Workshop this morning Mr. Bala taught us about characterisation; internal and external.
Internal characterisation consists of transitive verbs that can play out actions, such as 'I love you', 'I flatter you' etc.
External characterisation consists of the physical aspects of the character, such as whether they are drunk, have a disability or an accent.
External characterisation consists of the physical aspects of the character, such as whether they are drunk, have a disability or an accent.
We did excercises in trying to react to imaginary stimuli, such as opening an imaginary bottle. It was surprising how many of us did this so bad, and imagined the table to be much lower, or the bottle to be way too big! We also did an exercise where we imagined to be waiting for someone somewhere, which involved paying attention to the small details of your actions, and at the same time acting honestly. Lastly, we had a go at imagining finding an object on the floor.
All of the exercises turned out to be much more challenging than expected! I thought I was a better actress than that, but realised the intricacies of the art today; it's definitely not as easy as I'd thought!
